Extracted from the meat of mature coconuts, coconut oil is one of the most versatile oils you can buy. It not only holds incredible health benefits, but it’s applications are endless! From cooking and baking, to skin moisturizing, to oil pulling and even making detergent – coconut oil is a must have for any home. Here are the most common ways I use coconut oil every single day!
Cooking, of course!
The obvious, right? Coconut oil arguably the healthiest oil you can cook and bake with with a list of health benefits a mile long. Because it is a very stable oil it doesn’t break down or go rancid like other oils when cooked at high temperatures. It’s fatty acids aid in metabolism regulation, thyroid function, can promote healthy weight loss, reduce fatigue, and protect against infections.
It is excellent for people who suffer from digestive malfunctions like IBS, Celiac’s Disease, candida overgrowth, and some autoimmune disorders because it promotes proper absorption and heals the gut and intestinal linings – both of which are critical for those with digestive problems.
Makeup Remover. Say what?
Topically – and maybe a not-so-obvious use – coconut oil has been used for centuries to nourish and repair skin, hair, and nails. It has been shown to be very effective in healing all sorts of skin conditions from eczema, to rashes, to sunburns. I use it daily to remove my makeup! It’s super simple too. Just scoop a small amount and rub between your fingers to melt it. Then close your eyes (if you are also removing eye makeup) and gently massage the oil into your skin in a circular motion. If you get a little in your eyes, don’t worry, it won’t harm you. Then use a warm, wet facecloth to wipe off the excess oil. Rinse with warm water and that’s it!
Deep conditioning for your hair!
When I started using coconut oil treatments from Hello Hair I was blown away! Almost immediately my hair looked thicker. With regular use, coconut oil can help hair grow faster, strengthens damaged ends, eliminate dandruff or dry scalp, and adds incredible shine because it deeply penetrates the hair follicle more effectively than other conditioners that just coat it. It is great for colour treated and bleached hair too, plus hair that gets regular heat and sun exposure. If you blow dry or straighten your hair, you’ll definitely want to consider weekly coconut oil treatments. Hello Hair treatments are my ultimate favourite because they are SO easy to use! Slater it on before you take a shower. Leave for 30 minutes (and blend a smoothie while you wait). Then jump in the shower and wash it out! So easy! And my hair looks and feels like I just stepped out of the salon.
